നാഗേശ്വര ക്ഷേത്രം
ബാംഗ്ലൂരിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന ഒരു പുരാതന ക്ഷേത്രമാണു നാഗേശ്വര ക്ഷേത്രം. നാഗനാഥേശ്വര ക്ഷേത്രം, പഞ്ചലിംഗേശ്വര ക്ഷേത്രം എന്നീ പേരുകളിലും ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം അറിയപ്പെടുന്നുണ്ട്. ബാംഗ്ലൂരിൽ നിന്നും തമിഴ് നാട്ടിലെ ഹൊസ്സൂരിലേക്കു പോകുന്ന പ്രധാന റോഡിനു സമീപത്തുള്ള ബേഗൂർ പട്ടണത്തിലാണ് ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്നത്. ഇതിനടുത്ത് സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്തിരുന്ന കാശി വിശ്വേശര ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ അവശിഷ്ടങ്ങൾ ഇപ്പോഴും അവിടെയുണ്ട്. നാഗേശ്വര ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ മറ്റൊരു പ്രത്യേകത അവിടുത്തെ പഞ്ചലിംഗ പ്രതിഷ്ഠയാണ്.
വെസ്റ്റേൺ ഗംഗാ സാമ്രജ്യത്തിന്റെ കാലഘട്ടത്തിൽ (ക്രി.മു. 350 – 1000) ആണ് ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം പണി കഴിപ്പിച്ചത്. പടിഞ്ഞാറൻ ഗംഗാ സാമ്രാജ്യം പുരാതന കർണാടകത്തിലെ ഒരു സുപ്രധാന രാജവംശമായിരുന്നു. നാലാം നൂറ്റാണ്ടിനും ആറാം നൂറ്റാണ്ടിനും മദ്ധ്യേ പരമാധികാരമാണ് പടിഞ്ഞാറൻ ഗംഗാ സാമ്രാജ്യത്തിനുണ്ടായിരുന്നത്. കോലാറിൽ നിന്ന് ആദ്യം ആരംഭിച്ച്, പിന്നീട് അവരുടെ തലസ്ഥാനം ആധുനിക മൈസൂർ ജില്ലയിലെ കാവേരി നദിക്കരയിൽ തലക്കാടിലേക്കു മാറ്റുകയായിരുന്നു. ഈ കാലഘട്ടത്തിൽ എന്നോ ആയിരുന്നു നാഗേശ്വര ക്ഷേത്ര നിർമ്മിതി എന്നു വിശ്വസിച്ചു വരുന്നു.
പുരാതന ലിഖിതങ്ങളിൽ നിന്ന് ബേഗൂർ ഒരിക്കൽ വെപ്പുർ എന്നും കെല്ലെലെ എന്നും അറിയപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നു എന്നു കാണാം. ക്ഷേത്ര സമുച്ചയത്തിനകത്തെ നാഗേശ്വർ, നാഗേശ്വര സ്വാമി എന്നീ രണ്ട് ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങൾ പടിഞ്ഞാറൻ ഗംഗാ രാജവംശത്തിലെ രാജാക്കൻമാരായ നിതിമാർഗ ഒന്നാമനെയും (എറെഗംഗ നീതിമാർഗ എന്നും 843-870 എന്നും വിളിച്ചിരുന്നു), എരിയപ്പ നീതിമാർഗ രണ്ടാമന്റേയും (എറെഗംഗ നീതിമാർഗ II, 907- 921) മേൽ നോട്ടത്തിൽ പൂർത്തിയാക്കിയതാണ്. ഈ പ്രദേശത്ത് ചോള സാമ്രാജ്യത്തിന്റെ ഭരണത്തിന് ശേഷമുള്ള ഒരു ശേഷിപ്പാണ് ഇവിടുത്തെ മറ്റു പ്രതിഷ്ഠകൾ. CE 890 (AD) കാലത്ത് വന്ന ഒരു പഴയ കന്നഡ ലിഖിതത്തിൽ “ബംഗലൂരു യുദ്ധം” (ആധുനിക ബാംഗ്ലൂർ സിറ്റി) എന്ന പേരിൽ ഇതിനേപറ്റി വിവരിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്. ക്ഷേത്ര സമുച്ചയത്തിൽ കാണപ്പെടുന്ന ഈ ലിഖിതങ്ങൾ രചിച്ചത് ആർ. നരസിംഹചാർ ആണ്. ലിഖിതത്തേ കുറിച്ച് “എപ്പിഗ്രാഫിരിയ കർണാടിസ” (വോള്യം 10 സപ്ലിമെന്ററി) ൽ രേഖപ്പെടുത്തിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. ബെംഗലൂരു എന്ന സ്ഥലത്തിന്റെ അസ്തിത്വത്തിന്റെ ഏറ്റവും ആധികാരിക തെളിവായിരുന്നു ഇത്.
ബേഗൂർ റോഡിനരികിൽ ഉള്ള ബേഗൂർ തടാകക്കരയിലാണു ക്ഷേത്രം സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്നത്. ബാംഗ്ലൂർ സിറ്റിയിൽ നിന്നും ഇലക്ട്രോണിക് സിറ്റി, തമിഴ് നാട്ടിലെ ഹൊസ്സൂരിലേക്കു പോകുന്ന പ്രധാന പാത ഈ വഴികളിൽ നിന്നും എളുപ്പത്തിൽ ഇവിടേക്ക് എത്തിച്ചേരാനാവും. ബന്നാർഘട്ട റോഡിൽ നിന്നും ഹുളിമാവ് വഴിയും ബേഗൂരിലേക്ക് എത്തിച്ചേരാനാവും. ബൊമ്മനഹള്ളിയിൽ നിന്നും ഹൊങ്കസാന്ദ്ര വഴിയും ബേഗൂരിലേക്ക് എത്തിച്ചേരാനാവുന്നു. ഇലക്ട്രോണിക് സിറ്റിയിൽ നിന്നും ബേട്ടദാസണ്ണപുര വഴി ബേഗൂരിൽ എത്താനാവുന്നു.
Nageshwara Temple
Nageshwara Temple is an ancient temple located in Bangalore. This temple is also known as the Naganatheshwara Temple and the Panchalingeswara Temple. The temple is located in the town of Begur, near the main road from Bangalore to Hosur in Tamil Nadu. The ruins of the nearby Kashi Vishwara Temple are still there. Another feature of the Nageshwara Temple is the Goddess Panchalinga.
The temple was built in the Western Ganga Empire (350-1000 BC). The Western Ganges Empire was an important dynasty in ancient Karnataka. It was under the sovereignty of the Western Ganges Empire between the 4th and 6th centuries. They first started from Kolar and later shifted their capital to Talakad on the banks of the Cauvery River in modern Mysore district. It is believed that the Nageshwara Temple was built during this period.
Ancient inscriptions show that Begur was once known as Veppur and Kelele. The two temples within the temple complex, Nageshwar and Nageshwara Swamy, were completed under the supervision of Nithimarga I (also known as Eriganga Nithimarga 843-870) and Eriyappa Nithimarga II (Ereganga Nithimarga II, 907-921), kings of the Western Ganga dynasty. Other places of worship in the area are remnants of the Chola dynasty. AD The old Kannada inscription of 890 (AD) describes it as the “Battle of Bangalore” (modern Bangalore city). These inscriptions found in the temple complex were written by R. Narasimhachar. The inscription itself is recorded in the “Epigraphia Carnatica” (Appendix 10). This was the most authentic evidence of the place known as Bengaluru.
