I met a north Indian officer in Chennai airport immigration service,
He was asking me questions in Hindi, i told him in English that i don’t speak Hindi,
Then he asked me are you an Indian or American,
I told him, i am Indian, then he was laughing and told me again you are in India but you don’t know Hindi,
Then i started to talk with him in Tamil. he told me that he doesn’t understand Tamil. Now i told him,
you are in Tamil nadu but you don’t know Tamil?
he became angry as he is a higher “INDIAN OFFICER” and told me, “but Hindi is the national language”.
still i was cool and notify him that recently Gujarat High Court told that There’s no national language for India. The court also observed that in India, a majority of people have accepted Hindi as a national language and many speak Hindi and write in Devanagari script, but it’s not officially the national language.
Rest of the officers were laughing and were interest in this conversation, he was ashamed and angry so he put down my passport on his desk and told me that he needs to see lot of documents like my address proof driving license ,and for the purpose of my visit to abroad which is unnecessary to him.
This news reached my brother (cousin) who is chief Customs officer in Chennai airport and he came down to me and he let me go to the flight.
